Harland Day knows what it’s like to be on rock bottom: he was there once before, years ago when his mother walked out and left him behind. But he learned how to play the game and survived, crawling his way up with the help of a friend-turned-lover. This time is different: he has nobody to blame but himself for his trip to the bottom. His mouth, his attitude, his crappy play that landed him back in the minors instead of playing pro hockey with the Baltimore Banners. And this time, he doesn’t have anyone to help him out, not when his own selfishness killed the most important relationship he ever had.
Courtney Williams’ life isn’t glamorous or full of fame and fortune but she doesn’t need those things to be happy. She of all people knows there are more important things in life. And, for the most part, she’s been able to forget what could have been–until Harland gets reassigned to the York Bombers and shows back up in town, full of attitude designed to hide the man underneath. But the arrogant hockey player can’t hide from her, the one person who knows him better than anyone else. They had been friends. They had been lovers. And then they had been torn apart by misunderstanding and betrayal.
But some ties are hard to break. Can they look past what had been and move forward to what could be? Or will the sins of the past haunt them even now, all these years later?

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
Honestly, it depends on my mood. But there are two that always seem to be at the top of my list:
Fight Song by Rachel Platten and…
Wait for it…
Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen!

Name three things on your desk right now.
• A large bag of almond M&Ms (I won’t tell you how many are left in the bag)
• Large mug of coffee (strong with cream and sugar if you’re really curious)
• My planner and notepad, pens and post-its (yes, that only counts as one item in my world!!)

A la Twitter style, please describe your book in 140 characters or less.
Okay, I’m really not that great at Twitter but I’ll give it a shot:
#secondchanceromance #steamyread #firstlove #nevergiveup #loveconquersall #hockeyromance #alwayshopeful #friendstolovers
Did I go over??

What do you do when you are not writing?
Plan for the next book? Seriously, my mind is always going: thinking, dreaming, wondering, planning. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing, there’s always something involving writing going on in my head.
Except when I go into total slug-mode, which does happen every once in a while. If that’s the case, I’m either literally doing absolutely nothing (I mean I literally turn completely OFF), or I’m either reading or playing SIMS. Hey, don’t judge me !

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
The best piece of advice I can give (and have given) any aspiring writer is one that’s been around for ages: Just do it. Don’t think about doing it, don’t talk about doing it, don’t dream about doing it. Just sit your butt down and get those words on the page. Talking is easy, but if you’re serious, stop talking and just write. You can fix it later, worry about it later, angst over it later. But you need to get those words on paper first. In this case, actions really do speak louder than words.

Don’t get so caught up in the rules that you end up hampering your creative flow. Yes, learn the rules, be aware of them, but don’t let them rule your writing (or your creative process). There are so many rules out there that “they” say can’t be broken. But guess what? They get broken all the time, and it works. Do what works for you, your story, your characters. Don’t let the rules silence your unique voice. (Note: I’m not talking about grammar and punctuation–those are important. It’s those other pesky rules, like don’t write in first person, don’t write about a sports hero, etc.)

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
To my current readers and fans: THANK YOU so much for taking a chance and joining me on this wonderful journey! It really wouldn’t be possible without all of you! To those readers who haven’t yet read my books: don’t be afraid to take a chance! You might surprise yourself and find a new favorite author (if not favorite, then hopefully one you really like!).

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
My next scheduled release is PLAYING TO WIN, The York Bombers Book 2.
We met Jason Emory in Playing The Game and he seems like your typical jock who plays just as hard off the ice as he done on it. He’s single, hot, and completely free to do what he wants. And while he’s not exactly self-absorbed, he doesn’t really pay attention to what’s going on around him as well as he should.
Yeah…poor Jason has no idea what is about to hit him after one particularly hot night with a stranger who seems oddly familiar.
This one is a steamy twist on your one-night-encounter, with maybe just a hint of Cinderella thrown in! PLAYING TO WIN releases on March 21, and is available for pre-order now.

Lisa B. Kamps is the author of the best-selling series The Baltimore Banners, featuring “hard-hitting, heart-melting hockey players” (USA Today), on and off the ice. Her firefighter series, Firehouse Fourteen, features hot and heroic firefighters who put more than their lives on the line. Her newest hockey series, The York Bombers, launches with PLAYING THE GAME in February, 2017.
In a previous life, she worked as a firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department then did a very brief (and not very successful) stint at bartending in east Baltimore, and finally served as the Director of Retail Operations for a busy Civil War non-profit.
Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she’s not busy writing or chasing animals, she’s cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals–or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!

Too steamy for the penalty box…

The New Orleans Cajun Rage professional hockey team just won the Cup. No one thought they’d do it: they were a team of shoulda beens, never coulda beens and a star or two. They’d only been in the Crescent City for three years before this year’s Cinderella run that had them skating off the ice with the championship. Over the following summer, each player gets to keep the Cup for a day. Nobody knows why, but whoever has the Cup falls in love.

USA Today Bestsellers Robin Covington, Kimberly Kincaid, Nana Malone and Virginia Nelson, Publisher’s Weekly Bestseller Angi Morgan, along with Xio Axelrod, Christi Barth, Andie J. Christopher, Avery Flynn, Kim Golden, Lena Hart, Desiree Holt, Robin Kaye, Katie Kenyhercz, Heather Long, Kate Meader, Susan Scott Shelley, and Misty D. Waters bring you 18 romances with smoking hot heroes–both on and off the ice.

20% of all royalties from sales of Hot on Ice will go to Homes for Troops.

HOT ON ICE: Good Reads, Great Cause
By Andie J. Christopher

I am thrilled to be included in the HOT ON ICE anthology for a number of reasons. First, I get to play with some of my favorite, bestselling authors. (The anthology includes USA Today Bestsellers Robin Covington, Kimberly Kincaid, Nana Malone and Virginia Nelson, Publisher’s Weekly Bestseller Angi Morgan, along with Xio Axelrod, Christi Barth, Avery Flynn, Kim Golden, Lena Hart, Desiree Holt, Robin Kaye, Katie Kenyhercz, Heather Long, Kate Meader, Susan Scott Shelley, and Misty D. Waters—an all-star line up!) Second, I get to experiment with new characters in a new “world,” which is always a thrill. And, not least, 20% of the anthology’s profits will go to Homes for Troops, an organization that provides adapted, mortgage-free homes to severely injured Veterans. Having fun and giving back? Sign me up!

My story in the HOT ON ICE anthology, FULL CONTACT, features Leftwinger Anders Sorenson. His life-long focus on hockey came with a price—a price he never minded paying until reaching a crossroads in his career and meeting Dahlia Clarno. The eccentric bartender is hot, she doesn’t care about his fame, and she has no idea about the bounty his teammates have on his virginity. She’s the total package for a vacation fling.

Dahlia has no use for a man right now. She needs to be focused on paying off her failed business debts and getting out of her hometown (for good this time), not mooning over a six-four hunk of Viking-sex. When Dahlia finds out about the bet, it strengthens her resolve to stay far away from Anders. But his earnest smile and surprising smolder are hell on her resistance.

Anders wants to turn over his v-card to Dahlia, and he thinks he can trust her. Dahlia knows about the bounty, and the feelings she’s developing for Anders would make it wrong for her to cash in. Besides, it’s not like this vacation fling could ever turn into something more…

Welcome to Torte—a friendly, small-town family bakeshop where the oven is heating up as high as the body count… Jules Capshaw is still chewing over her husband Carlos’s return to Ashland, Oregon. Could there be too many cooks in the kitchen? Whatever is stirring between those two will have to wait. Despite the Oregon Shakespeare Festival being dark for the winter, the bakeshop is bustling, the dough is rolling, and there’s no rest for the weary… especially when murder is thrown into the mix. When Mindy Nolan, the owner of a new restaurant in town, turns up dead, the batter at hand thickens. Jules knows that there was bad blood between Mindy and others in town, and tracking the killer could prove to be an unwelcome treat. And to top it all off, there’s Carlos, who is pleading—with those delicious dark eyes and sexy Spanish accent—for Jules to take him back. Is home where the heart is or will she make a fresh start… and risk getting burned?

Baking Behind the Scenes
Welcome to Torte, where the bread is always served warm with a pat of hand-churned butter, and a side of love. Torte, the artisan family bakeshop in my culinary mystery series, is a gathering place for the community. Locals and tourists stop in for fresh raspberry scones, slices of decadent double chocolate cake, and to talk about all the gossip and news around town. I love getting to create a comforting and welcoming bakeshop and writing about food. However, I’m not a trained pastry chef which means that I spend a lot of time visiting real bakeries and interviewing professional chefs. It’s a rough job, I know.

I thought it would be fun to give you a taste (pun intended) of the research that goes into learning the inner workings of the culinary world.

Cake Happy

For starters I think about the actual space. Because Torte is located in Ashland, Oregon, home of the world famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival, it has to have a touch of Shakespeare and whimsy. It’s painted cheery red and teal blue with corrugated metal siding, bistro tables, and a chalkboard menu. One of my bakery inspirations is a place called Cake Happy in Camas, Washington. It’s a family run shop with gorgeous window displays, a rustic elegant vibe, and plenty of cozy couches to curl up with a red velvet cupcake and steaming hot latte.

NW Culinary School

Another thing that I do when I’m working on a book is interview pastry chefs. I’ve learned so many tricks of the trade, quick tips for baking, and even gotten a few new ideas on how to bump someone off in a bakeshop from chatting with chefs. I’ve been so impressed to watch how they orchestrate a blur of staff, a frenzy of chopping knives, and plate after plate of styled food. One of the most amazing experiences that I’ve had behind the scenes in a professional kitchen was at the NW Culinary Institute where I spent an evening watching chefs-in-training at work as they prepared a six course meal that almost too pretty to eat and tasted even better.

Cake buffet

Speaking of taste, I can’t even begin to count how many pastries and baked goods I’ve sampled in the last few years. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, but my waistline might be in trouble. Whenever I travel I ask for recommendations on the best places to score a sweet eat in town. I’ve never been disappointed in my search and I try to find unusual flavor combinations and exotic delicacies when I’m exploring a new place, some of which have even found their way into the pages of the books. One standout tasting memory was at the dessert buffet in Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I still dream of the miles of cakes, macaroons, chocolate dipped strawberries, and petit fours. Yum!

cakescape

Lastly, one of the most rewarding and humbling things about writing the series has been connecting with local bakers. They have welcomed me into their kitchens, championed the books, and created stunning masterpieces like this cakescape from the book release party for the third book in the series, On Thin Icing. My local pastry muse is Kristina with Tier Catering who treated the audience to a hands-on icing demonstration and a tutorial on the best way to cut a cake. Seriously, I think I have the best job ever!

Here’s to all the bakers—whether in your home kitchen or in a 5-star restaurant—I hope you enjoy my fictional bakeshop in Caught Bread Handed.

Happy Baking!

~Ellie

Guest Post:
Today I’m excited to welcome author Lida Sideris to the blog! She’s on tour promoting her first book, Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters, and wanted to let us know a little more about her.

Little Known Facts About Lida Sideris, author of Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters
1. Many writers are introverts. I’m no exception. There was a time I excelled at being the shy, silent type. Spoken words were almost painful. In school especially. I hoped fervently that I would be overlooked in class and that I could learn by just blending into the woodwork on the wall. I didn’t dare speak unless I was asked a question and was forced to answer. Even then, it was a very short, quiet answer. My life shifted when I had children and took an active role in their education. I was handed a cause, a purpose for which I could not afford to be shy. Pre-children, it had been like I’d carried a python wrapped around my neck, squeezing my vocal chords just enough to make the utterance of words nearly impossible. But when my children needed me to advocate or take action on their behalf, I fought the python until it slithered off. It’s probably happier living in a rainforest somewhere. I’m happier too.
2. I’m very nearsighted and have been since the age of thirteen. Although I’m vain and don’t like to wear glasses, the mere thought of lasers, shiny tools, and suction rings conjures up visions of being strapped to a table and writhing under a blinding light while unseen voices whisper about me. Hence my myopic vision continues. I alternate between glasses, contacts and viewing the world through a lens that appears to have been coated in Vaseline. That’s good for people around me, as physical flaws are nonexistent.
3. I have an uncanny ability of killing off houseplants. I haven’t figured out whether it’s homicide or suicide – I have a knack for subjecting them to stressful situations.
4. I’m devoted to nursing plants back to health that I’ve almost killed. Here are pictures of one prime example:

guestpost

Take note, the above shots are not a re-enactment. Those are my real plants.
5. I’m an avid library volunteer and I’ve been carrying a torch for the library since I could read. It is my favorite place to relax, to write, to just be. During my lunch breaks, it’s a haven where I can read or unwind. I regard books as necessary friends. To go too long without a book is like days on end without sunshine or air.
6. Although I disavow big city life and its sometimes intellectually undernourished, I visit the city often. But I sometimes make contemptuous remarks upon exiting.
7. I am a procrastinator. But I have a good reason for being one: I work best under pressure.
There you have it! Seven little known facts that probably should remain just that: little known.
Thank you for hosting me, Ashley!

There’s nothing worse for a writer than missing a deadline. For Griffin Montgomery, his failure to do what he loves comes at a blow. He didn’t understand how it was affecting his life until his well-meaning family intercedes. His sisters have hired him a new personal assistant and he’s outraged—that is, until he sees who it is.

Autumn Minor is light on her feet and a bare memory for most people she meets. She does her best to blend in everywhere she lives, even if it’s only for a short period of time. Making sure no one truly notices her is the only way she’s survived this long. Only when she meets Griffin and the rest of the Montgomerys, she’s afraid she won’t be able to let go when its time to run.

Though the two begin a tentative but explosive relationship, they know it can’t last forever. Neither of them are made for the long haul when it comes to love and romance. Guest Post:
Behind the Scenes of Written in Ink

Written in Ink is about Griffin and Autumn, two of the most quiet characters I’ve had in my head for a long while. Only they didn’t stay too quiet. Most of my Montgomery characters had dark and angsty backstories in my head before I even thought of writing their book.
Griffin and Autumn were different.
They hid from me.
Griffin’s a writer, you see. He’s cage about his plot. Only as soon as I started to put his story on paper I realized he was far more emotional than I thought. I was just as frustrated with him as he was with his own book. Sort of art imitating life…imitating art…or something.
Autumn…oh Autumn…I thought of her story while making dinner for my friend and fellow author Kennedy Layne. I looked at Kennedy and went OMG OMG OMG. I don’t know why it hit my like that, but I KNEW what happened with Autumn and why she was the way she was.
You’ll have to read Written in Ink to find out who they are…but let me say ANGST and OMG HOTTNESS.
Griffin and Autumn surprised me in more ways than one…and their story might be one of the hottest I’ve written.
Ever.
I hope you love it as much as I do.

Profile2 (1)
Author Bio:
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.
